Shane Bieber sets the record

Shane “Don’t Call Me Justin” Bieber continued the sheer dominance that Indians’ pitchers have enjoyed over the last 15-odd years. With five Cy Young winners since 2007 (C.C. Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Corey Kluber x2, and Bieber), the Indians have become quite accustomed to great pitchers. This hasn’t always been the case, hello Danny Baez and Ryan Drese.

Bieber came off a great 2019 and had high expectations for 2020. Spoiler alert; he lived up to them by winning the 2020 AL Cy Young Award and running away with the voting process. He became the Ace of the AL and set himself as the next great legend in Indians history.

It started all on Opening Day.

Coming in against the Kansas City Royals, Bieber made sure to show the world what he was about, and struck out 14 batters in just six innings of work. Bieber made sure to make it known what he was about and struck out Adalberto Mondesi, Salvador Perez, and Maikel Franco three times each. Mondesi and Perez hit second and clean up respectively.

Bieber left no doubt and the Indians have a lot of these games to look forward to from their young Ace.
