1. Greg Newsome, CB, Northwestern

If the Northwestern corner made it this far, the Browns would likely scoop him up. He’s probably the last corner among the first wave of player at the position worthy of a first-round selection.

I read somewhere on a national outlet that the Browns were “stacked” at corner, but that’s just not true. Yes, Denzel Ward is great and Cleveland was lauded for signing Troy Hill. But the later will play the slot, meaning they’ve got to get someone on the outside.

I know, I know. Greedy Williams. I don’t yet know if he can make it through training camp. If he can, great. With the NFL being more pass happy then ever, take Newsome if he’s available here.

It used to be that you needed two stellar corners, then the nickel corner became more valuable. Now, you better have four corners capable of staring, or you’re going to get burned.

A Paul DePodesta front office has a track record of trading up into the first round to get their guy (David Njoku, 2017), so I wouldn’t be surprised if Cleveland’s chief strategy office green-lit a move for Newsome.

Corner’s a big money position and having two defensive backs on their rookie contracts (Williams and potentially Newsome) would go along way to keep Cleveland’s defense in the thick of things now, and in the future.
