Browns: 5 most overpaid players for the upcoming 2021 season
By Chad Porto
WR Jarvis Landry
Jarvis Landry is a five-time Pro Bowler, and one of the best receivers in the NFL today. The problem stems from the fact that Landry is coming off of a huge injury to his hip and it took him nearly three-quarters of a season to rebound and return to form. Now that he has, we’re all wondering what he’s going to be like for an entire season.
When going through the criteria to start the column, it should be reiterated that only one of those marks against you qualify you for the list. Landry is the number one receiver on the team and he’s a 29-year-old receiver who doesn’t rely on athleticism, so he’ll age gracefully barring injury.
Yet, it’s just that, which is why he’s on the list. For someone making $14 million, for him to only have 800 yards in 2020 isn’t good. If he wants to stay off this list, he has to perform better. It’s not on Baker Mayfield, either. Mayfield proved that when he’s allowed to let loose, he can over-deliver. The problem came from the fact that Landry found himself in crowded bundles with other receivers who couldn’t get distance or space.
This made it harder for him to drop underneath and find his spots. This isn’t an excuse though. When you’re someone who can’t go over the top on defenses and stretch them, do you deserve to make $14+ million?
That’s mostly why Landry is on here. He’s still the ace of the receiver corp but if he can’t take over a game, he shouldn’t be paid like he can.
