OL Greg Senat

Just because he’s a new signing, doesn’t mean he’s going to be around for a while. Greg Senat was signed to a one-year, league minimum salary in March of 2021. The Browns are pretty deep at the offensive line position at the moment, with Pro Bowl and All-Pro talent at guard in Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller respectively. The depth behind them is pretty impressive, as both Michael Dunn and Blake Hance have both proven to be very good backups and may even be long-term options as starters if Bitonio is eventually cut. That doesn’t even factor in Drew Forbes or Colby Gossett, who sat out 2020 due to the pandemic.

Then you have the starting tackles, Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin. Conklin’s not going anywhere unless he opts not to re-sign, and Wills, despite a shaky rookie season, has promise. Plus, you have versatile sixth-man type in Chris Hubbard, backup tackle Alex Taylor and rookie offensive linemen James Hudson.

Unless Senat can play center, it seems unlikely he’s making the team at this juncture. The team may mix and match on the line, but the team has an overabundance of good offensive linemen. Hubbard will probably walk this year to be a starter somewhere else, and with that in mind, it’d be wise to keep as many of the former players on staff as possible.

The offensive line is football’s version of a baseball bullpen. You can’t ever have too many good ones. Yet, Senat has bounced around. Maybe he’ll be a good find for the Kevin Stefanski offense, maybe he won’t, but the Browns didn’t draft yet another tackle because they’re confident in their short and long-term future at the position.
