There’s a lot going on here, but none of it really works. Jarrett Allen isn’t an All-NBA player, at least not yet, but the “haul” the Mavericks would be sending back is dismal at best and insulting at worst. Yeah, the Cavs are getting a first-round pick but what else are they getting? Frankly, that first-round pick isn’t going to be much better than the second-rounder they’re getting back in the trade, so it’s essentially two guys not worth their contract, and two (essentially) second-round picks.

There’s no way the Mavericks are going to be in the lottery as long as they have Luka Doncic, and more than likely they’ll be in the back five or ten of the draft. So it’s unlikely the Cavs draft a player as good as Allen.

The players they get back, Dwight Powell and Jason Richardson are only part of the deal because they’re dead weight. Powell’s contract and declining play have become a problem for Dallas and Richardson was just acquired in a trade for Seth Curry, a trade the Mavericks now know they shouldn’t have made.

Why would the Cavaliers send away Collin Sexton for two future role-players and two busted veterans when retaining him and re-signing him would net the team a better player?
