The Indians were going to lose Trevor Bauer after the 2020 season, so they got ahead of his departure by flipping him in a three-team trade.

Yasiel Puig, also acquired in the trade, was the big, recognizable name to the casual fan at the time, but Franmil Reyes was always the prize, and that’s showing in 2021.

Even after a stint on the DL with back issues, Reyes has been excellent when active. He’s batting .272 (.923 OPS) with 14 homers in 173 at-bats. After missing all of June, he’s batting .345 with three homers during the eight games he’s played in July.

With Reyes on the roster, DH is solidified with Terry Francona able to pencil in a dangerous, right-handed stick in his lineup.

Of course, everyone knows the struggles the Indians’ offense went through for most of the first half, so it’ll be on Reyes, including Jose Ramirez and Bobby Bradley to continue packing a punch as the Tribe plays catch-up with the ChiSox.

As the All-Stars take the field this week, one can’t but help think that Reyes would’ve been there had he stayed healthy. Hopefully he stays in the lineup, because it looks like only good things will come if he plays.
