Special Teams and Practice Squads

With the offense and defensive set, let’s take a look at the on-roster candidates for the special team positions.

Special Teams: (K) Cody Parkey, (P) Jamie Gillan, (LS) Charley Hughlett
Cut: Chase McLaughlin
Reason: While Chase McLaughlin may give Cody Parkey a run for his money, the Browns didn’t move on from him last year for a reason, so there’s no reason to suspect that they’ll do so now. Not with a kicker who really isn’t that active at the moment.

Now that we’ve made all of our cuts, who gets to be on the practice squad?

Practice Team (11 of 12): QB Kyle Lauletta, RB D’Ernest Johnson, FB Johnny Stanton, WR KhaDarle Hodge, OG Drew Forbes, TE  Connor Davis, OT Cordel Iwuagwu, LB Elijah Lee, CB Robert Jackson, S Jovante Moffatt, K Chase McLaughlin
Reason: The practice squad will start with just 11 of 12 possible spots in the event someone worth having comes available and the team needs to make some moves. Keeping a third quarterback on the roster is a sensible move. D’Ernest Johnson, Johnny Stanton, KhaDarle Hodge, Drew Forbes, and Connor Davis could all find themselves with big minutes should a single injury occur on the main roster. As for the defensive players, most aren’t game-changers or as good as their offensive counterparts, but since we’re filling our practice squad with cut roster members, we had to use what we had. With injuries bound to happen, keeping a few defensive backs and even an extra kicker isn’t the worst idea.
