Cavs: Kyle Kuzma’s dig against Cleveland is hilarious consider who said it
By Chad Porto
Kyle Kuzma missed the irony with his attempted dig against Cleveland.
Kyle Kuzma isn’t a fan of Cleveland, nor is he aware of its rich history. He isn’t aware of the culinary masterpieces that have come from within the city limits or the fact that it’s considered one of, if not the best medical community in the whole world. The Cleveland Clinic is famous internationally. To say the city needs LeBron James to be relevant is laughably ignorant. So when one fan heckled Kuzma, the Wizards forward proved how little he knew about the city.
According to Yahoo Sports, it all started with a fan who had a sign that said “LeBron [James] won Kuzma his ring”, which is accurate. Kuzma retaliated by saying “Without ‘Bron, Cleveland wouldn’t be s***”. Rude, and untrue. Cleveland is one of the richest sports cities in the country and has been for the better part of 30 years. The Browns, Indians, and Cavs may have had their collective highs and lows, but the highs are notorious for being very memorable.
The same thing couldn’t be said about Kuzma’s performance in the 2020 NBA Playoffs.
Kyle Kuzma only has a ring because of LeBron James
Let’s get several things out of the way. Kuzma is a good NBA player, and he’s someone most teams would want to have. Maybe not Cleveland, but that’s more due to a log-jam situation at his position and not due to his talent. This isn’t meant as a dig, just honesty.
Kuzma hasn’t done anything in his career to warrant insulting an entire city. Yes, he has a ring, and it’s 100% because of James. In Kuzma’s two trips to the playoffs, the forward is averaging just nine points per game and shooting barely 40% from the field. Three of his five post-season series saw him shoot under 40%, with him shooting just 29% in 2021, resulting in him being traded for Russell Westbrook, a player notorious for his terrible shooting away from the paint.
Kuzma was deemed so expendable and unwanted, that the Lakers literally traded him for a player that has actively hurt the Lakers on both ends of the court in 2021. This is like your girlfriend dumping you and hooking up with a guy who sleeps in his mom’s basement and doesn’t have a way to get around.
Kuzma got kicked out for a dude who is a shell of what he once was, which even at his peak, was still a bad fit next to LeBron James. Kuzma’s a fine NBA player but trying to dunk on a town because a fan was honest (and correct) really shows just how easily bothered he is. Especially when you and that town seem to share a commonality.
