4. Front office’s kicker plan

I’m not going to bash Chris Naggar, who was playing in his first NFL game, for missing that first extra point, rather, I’ll crack Andrew Berry for putting the team in this position.

Chase McLaughlin was hardly a sure thing to enter the season with, yet the Browns went with him  anyways, making no effort to pick up an established kicker.

After McLaughlin makes the team, you sign Naggar to the practice squad, because, you know, “Just in case.”

Well, COVID is still very much a thing, and what do you know? McLaughlin, who’s been bad anyways, is out, and Naggar is in.

He misses that first extra point and the Browns were chasing the point the rest of the day. They went for two on the next touchdown drive and failed to convert. That’s two points off the board and that’s your difference in the game.

For what it’s worth, I thought Naggar did a nice job of settling in and hitting him some kicks. I would’ve let him try a game winner.

Apparently, Kevin Stefanski did not, though, as the head coachtalked about going for the touchdown on the final ill-fated drive, not trying to set up a 3-pointer.

Everybody rags on the kicker, but you really, really need one. Hopefully the Browns quit clowning around put some effort into fixing this position this offseason.
