4. Cade Cunningham – Detroit Pistons

Club Record: 8-30

Cade Cunningham was the first pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and you have to wonder if the Detroit Piston faithful would want to have that pick back. While Cunningham hasn’t been atrocious on the levels of Anthony Bennett, he has the potential of ending up like the Pistons’ very own Marvin Bagley.

He’s shooting just 38% from the floor and 31.8% from three-point land. He’s putting up 15.3 points, six rebounds, and five assists per game so far through 28 contests (all starts). He’s got an offensive RAPTOR score of -2.6 and a defensive RAPTOR score of -1.0. He’s got something going on, as those aren’t terrible numbers

Why he’s a candidate

His RAPTOR scores may make you think that he’s not very effective but considering that rookies rarely score that high, to begin with, he’s on his way. His stats are solid, and he was the first overall pick in the draft. Beyond that, though? He’s not.

Why he’s not a candidate

While his stats aren’t bad, and his advanced metrics are solid, they’re not impressive either. There’s a lot of rookies that have his numbers or at the very least, numbers similar to his. His team’s lack of success and his lack of game-changing impact has nerfed his chances.
