7. DT Tommy Togiai – No. 93

  • Drafted: 4th round, Pick 132
  • PFF Score: 40.8
  • Stats: Six games, 16 tackles, one pass deflection
  • Grade: D

Honestly, this one is both expected and utterly disappointing. It was expected because he was a backup at Ohio State, who largely did very little in the way of on-field performance to warrant a fourth-round pick. It’s utterly disappointing because he’s arguably the strongest player on the team but his football IQ and his fundamentals are so bad that it really didn’t matter.

I’m keeping from giving him a F though only because he was a huge project coming in. Though, with a PFF score of 40.8, I’d be within my right to give him one. He lost out to three, just awful players in Malik Jackson, Malik Dowell, and Andrew Billing. Neither Malik should be back on the team and Billing was so bad he was released mid-season. At a position of need. Yikes.

Like with Fields, the hope was that Togiai would compete for a spot in the rotation, potentially start, or just do something note-worthy. That didn’t end up happening, however, and instead, fans are now left wondering if Togiai can bounce back and improve enough to be a starter next year, or at the very least be good enough to be a rotational player for 17 games.
