Cleveland Browns nab stud WR, K in 2022 post Senior Bowl mock draft
Browns Round 3, Pick 78 Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State
The Colorado State product was named the top tight end on the east squad at the Senior Bowl and the Browns should be looking for a tight end.
McBride had 90 catches for 1,121 yards and a touchdown with the Rams in 2021. The Browns picked up another Mackey Award a few years back named Harrison Bryant. So while it’s wishful thinking believing McBride falls here, it’s not crazy.
As for the in-house tight ends, Bryant will return next season, while the Browns have to figure out what to do with Austin Hooper. He carries such a great cap number, the Browns should look to restructure the deal.
Meanwhile, David Njoku is a free agent. Most would rather have him back, instead of Hooper, but it remains to be seen how much money the Browns want to commit to the position.
Drafting McBride would give Cleveland two players on their rookie contracts at the position.
Compensatory: The Browns will get a compensatory pick after the Vikings hired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Wouldn’t be a surprised to see Cleveland look at the EDGE spot, maybe Kentucky’s Josh Paschal, or corner, because you can never have enough corners (Houston’s Marcus Jones or Nebraska’s JoJo Domann).
