LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah

Greg Newsome was the first home-run of the 2021 NFL Draft but he wasn’t the only one, as the second round saw a stud fall to Cleveland in linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. The Notre Dame product fell out of the second round due in part to health concerns, but he quickly and quietly, shut those concerns down fast.

His ability to cover route runners like a safety allowed the Browns to get creative on defensive and while he’s not some impactful, behind-the-line-of-scrimmage type of guy (yet), he gives the Cleveland Browns their first true elite-coverage guy at linebacker since Joe Schobert left.

While he’s a potential Pro Bowler, his lack of blitzing and behind-the-line tackling does open up room on the team for another Pro Bowl-caliber linebacker. Who that is could be anyone’s guess but Owusu-Koramoah is certainly someone that fits a specific skill set. That allows the Browns to look for complimentary options around the league to bring in. Maybe another linebacker can be had in the draft who can help apply pressure in third-and-long? Owusu-Koramoah won’t have to leave the field and you can get another pass rusher in the game at the same time.

He really is a great compliment to the defense, as you can essentially run seven defensive backs at once if you want with him and not lose anything with tackling.
