3. Cleveland Browns must pressure from the inside

With Myles Garrett in the mix, the Browns, since the John Dorsey era, have been trying to create a front four on the defensive line capable of generating pressure without blitzing extra players.

It hasn’t happened. Finding another end was a problem until Jadeveon Clowney signed on this past season, while the tackles haven’t done much. The Browns took a flier on Malik McDowell, and while there were flashes, the first-year pro didn’t play consistently enough. With his off the field actions, he won’t be back in 2022.

Malik Jackson was signed and started, but was really just OK. Sheldon Day had some nice spots, and we didn’t see much of rookie Tommy Togiai. Jordan Elliott will be going into his third year in 2022. If it’s time to take a step up, this is it.

If the Browns go through free agency, Chiefs tackle Jarran Reed would be worth a look. He’s only 29 and has a 10.5 sack season under his belt. Granted, that’s the outlier, as he had just 2.5 last season with the Chiefs. His second highest total (6.5) came in 2019 with the Seahawks.

The Browns defense was very good down the stretch, and if they were able to generate pressure from the inside, just imagine how much more dynamic Joe Woods’ crew could be.
