6. Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski must turn over play calling duties

More-so than 2020, last season, it seemed like the moment got the best of Kevin Stefanski far too often, which is why he should turn over the play calling to Alex Van Pelt.

It was especially concerning to hear the defense talk of a divide between the team. I know it’s not easy to keep everyone together in the age of COVID, with the units being in different locker rooms, but Stefanski should use the moment to flex his CEO muscle.

Plus, it’s not like he was some offensive guru while with the Vikings. He worked with quarterbacks, but was the offensive coordinator for one season before taking on the Browns job, so it’s not like Cleveland was signing up an X’s and O’s savant.

AVP has called plays twice while with the Browns, in the 2020 playoff game and the 2021 COVID game against the Raiders. He was fine. Better than fine. He was good. At the very least, it’s safe to say he was no worse than 2021 Stefanski.

I’m not down on Stefanski, but so much happens in the moment, and when we finally get to the big game, I don’t want to see it pass the Browns and Stefanski by.
