Caris LeVert

If you’ve been following my work for any time now, you know that I was intrigued with LeVert’s arrival, being a fan of his during his time on the Nets with Spencer Dinwiddie and Jarrett Allen. Had the Cavs landed all three at some point, I would’ve been very excited about the Cavs‘ future. I liked LeVert. I even liked him when he went to Indiana.

Yet, when he arrived in Cleveland in a mid-season trade that saw the Cavaliers send Ricky Rubio and a protected first-round pick to the Pacers, the only issue I had with it was that we lost Rubio and subsequently his Bird Rights.

Yet, there was potential. Potential that was quickly dashed when he couldn’t find his spot on the team. During his entire run with the Cavs throughout the final weeks of the 2022 regular season, LeVert looked lost and failed to really push the action. He didn’t shoot a lot of threes, and he wasn’t the same on-ball playmaker that Collin Sexton and Rubio were.

LeVert isn’t a bad player but the Cavs don’t need a mediocre on-ball play-maker. They need someone who can really make some noise. Moving LeVert in a trade for a wing player, someone who can stretch the court and hit threes like Harrison Barnes, is the smart move.

We’ll see if they make the smart move.
