Draft Josh Allen in 2018

While Patrick Mahomes didn’t make all the sense considering the team would have to pass up on Myles Garrett, there really wasn’t a reason not to draft Josh Allen in 2018. While I wasn’t writing on the site at the time, Allen was my pick for the draft. I thought his athleticism and arm power would make him someone the Browns couldn’t overlook and yet they did anyway.

So when he started to get better in Buffalo and everyone saw his full potential of him, it was only a matter of time before people started wondering why we took Baker Mayfield over him. I think Allen was the choice in 2018, and I still do. That said, that doesn’t mean I didn’t warm to Mayfield over his time in Cleveland. I did. I liked his moxie, and the whole “getting us to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years” thing.

Again, like with Mahomes, there’s no guarantee that Allen would’ve matured and blossomed in Cleveland as he did in Buffalo but there’s no guarantee he wouldn’t have either. Allen very well may have become the kind of player in Cleveland that he did in Buffalo.

We have no way of saying otherwise, so that’s why he’s on this list.
