Ricky Rubio

This is the big one. Ricky Rubio is back on a three-year deal and if fans remember last year, everyone knew he was the front-runner for the Sixth Man of the Year award and he’ll likely go after that award once again, assuming he’s back to full strength. He should be ready to go by the start of the season, barring any setbacks, so Rubio’s signing should pay dividends pretty fast.

Rubio is what he is. He’s not a dynamic scorer, but he’s a gritty one. He’s not afraid to keep shooting even if his shot isn’t falling, and his ability to crash the paint and challenge bigger men is a testament to who he is. His passing is something that has made him a true threat whenever he’s on the court, and on a team with the likes of Darius Garland, his passing is going to be important.

With Rubio, Garland can play off-ball and focus more on his shooting, allowing the Cavs to present a different lineup every so often with two of their better guards on the court. He’s also a perfect pairing with Collin Sexton, should he return to the team in 2022.

While his shooting is suspect, his passing isn’t, and when you think about what he can do defensively and the energy he brings on that end of the court, it makes too much sense to not bring Rubio back for 2022-2023.

With his three-year contract secured, Rubio will be here for the rest of his prime and that’s something Cavs fans should be very excited about.
