Sione Takitaki

We’re putting Sione Takitaki here for one reason alone; he’s not an Andrew Berry guy. The other two options that could be right here are Tony Fields and Jacob Phillips. Both guys have been underwhelmed since arriving in the NFL, and if it came down to Takitaki or one of the guys Berry drafted, I don’t see Takitaki making it.

To be clear, however, one of those three names will likely not be on this team come Week 1 against Baker Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers. The Browns have eight linebackers but will likely only carry five.

The guys who are most likely to be cut are Dakota Allen, Willie Harvey, and Silas Kelly. So there stands to reason that Takitaki, Fields, and Phillips could all see the team after the preseason, but I’m of the mindset that one of them, Allen, Harvey, or most likely Kelly, will surprise coaches, forcing someone to get cut from the other trio of names.

That’s why Takitaki is truly here because luck isn’t on his side. The Browns are bound to hit on an undrafted free agent, and when they do, someone will have to be replaced. Takitaki isn’t a bad player, he’s just a guy in the last year of his contract and hasn’t been impactful enough to garner considerations for an extension yet.

I hope he stays but I have my doubts.
