It can save the Cleveland Browns money

Sadly, money does matter right now for the Cleveland Browns. The salary cap looms large, and it’s going to make the Browns do a lot of things that fans don’t want to see happen. Restructuring, trades, and releases are all on the table. As of Jan. 27, 2023, the Browns have no money to play with heading into the offseason. With just the contracts on the roster, as is, they’re over the cap.

Changes are coming and sadly, of the top earners on the team, Nick Chubb is the easiest to move. i don’t want to write this, but that’s the sad logistics of the season we’re about to endure. Sure, they may be able to make room under the cap without trading Chubb, but things can’t happen unilaterally. Guys have to agree to new deals, they can’t just be forced upon them.

Would a guy like Deshuan Watson really accept taking less money now, with all of his mounting lawsuits and payouts due soon? What about Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller? Not a lot of teams have invested as much money into two guards as the Browns.

Moving on from Chubb guarantees the team some money with minimal penalties.
