2021 – Greg Newsome, Jeremiah Owusuo-Koramoah

The Cleveland Browns landed two very solid starters from the first two rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft in cornerback Greg Newsome and linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. The hype on these two was unreal from the fanbase when they were drafted, with many decreeing Owusu-Koramoah as a Pro-Bowl caliber linebacker before he ever took the field.

They’re both good players, but neither has shown All-Pro or even Pro Bowl-level plays of yet. For Newsome, he’s already looking at being the third cornerback on the team behind Martin Emerson, after posting two modest years. PFF gave him an overall of 68.1 and a coverage grade of 70.6 in 2021, while in 2022 his overall climbed to 69.1, and his coverage score hopped to 72.3. Not bad numbers, not great numbers, but very solid numbers. That’s what Newsome is, a solid cornerback. You’ll have a nice 10-year, Daylon McCutcheon-type career with Newsome.

As for Owusu-Koramoah, he had a great rookie year in 2021, posting a PFF score of 76.5, a run defense score of 78.7, a pass-rushing score of 70.3, and a coverage score of 67.4. In 2022, however, everything dropped. His overall is just 65.5, his run defense and pass rush scores fell to 58.8 and 48.5 respectively, but his coverage lept to 73.4.

Owusu-Koramoah is an undersized linebacker, barely breaking 220 lbs, and his lack of size will make it hard for him to be a great linebacker, but his speed, and intelligence does open up the possibility of him moving to linebacker and excelling there. He’s not a Hall of Famer, right now, but his future is brighter than most on the team.
