Pick #190 – C Luke Wypler

The Cleveland Browns may have found a late-round gem in Luke Wypler. Wypler, who stands at 6’3, and 303 lbs, is a former center at Ohio State. Wypler will be joining the team alongside former OSU teammate Dawand Jones. Wypler is a strong and sizeable center, who should be able to push for playing time as a reservist in 2023, before getting a chance at a starting role down the line.

He’s quick and has some strength to him, but according to NFL Draft Buzz, lacks elite strength to move people off the line. However, PFF contradicts that by giving him two elite grades of 81.0 when it comes to his run-blocking grade, and 84.1 for his pass-blocking.

So clearly, he’s a strong enough center to maintain high marks. He’s not going to be someone you’d expect to see play early, however, so time is his biggest friend. That said, it does seem like the team is thinking long-term with this pick.

Player Comparision: Alex Stepanovich

Draft Grade: B+

Thoughts: I love this pick and would give it a higher grade, but he fell for a reason. It can’t be as simple as him not being strong enough, so why did he fall? That said, I do see a lot of former Buckeye Alex Stepanovich in his play, though hopefully, he can be more productive and less banged up.
