#4 – Khalil Mack

With the Browns still looking to make an impact on defense Mack could fit in a number of spots. Paul Kruger can be moved inside, Jabaal Sheard can move down into a 4-3 end and Mack could even move inside. Mack is a playmaker with strong hands and lower body. He can get washed out some in run defense but will learn on the next level. Mack has the ability to make plays rushing the passer as well as in coverage, and has the skills to improve in run defense.

The Browns pass on Watkins based on the depth of this year’s wide receiver class. They also pass on QBs not seeing one that will make the type of impact needed for such a high pick. The Browns haven’t shown a great deal of interest in upgrading their offensive line and may feel comfortable with the group they currently have with Jason Pinkston or others starting at right guard. Mack is a playmaker and Pettine will find the best way to deploy him on the field. What the previous regime did last year has no impact on Farmer’s decision this year. Pettine can find a way to use Barkevious Mingo, Kruger, Sheard, Mack and Karlos Dansby in many places.
