Cleveland Browns Defense

On the flip side this Browns defense will be put to the test early. Not in the sense that they will be facing a high-powered offense, but that they will likely be playing to make up for the lack of offense the Browns will have throughout the game.

More from Cleveland Browns

Fitzpatrick and the Jets passing attack does not scare me in the slightest. Marshall is a solid addition to the Jets offense, but he won’t be able to beat out this great Browns secondary single-handedly. I expect the Browns secondary to hold Fitzpatrick down on that end and force the Jets to run the football in order to score.

One key match-up to watch here will be seeing how the Browns defense deals with Ivory and company. New York will rely more and more on the running game with Smith nursing his broken jaw.

The Browns run defense was a huge hole last year, but thankfully that problem was addressed this offseason. The team drafted Danny Shelton from the University of Washington and signed free agent Randy Starks on the defensive line, among other important improvements on defense. How the run defense fares against the Jets running attack will be huge in determining who wins this game.
