Running back: Isaiah Crowell, Duke Johnson, Terrell Watson

Recent headlines aside, the 2016 season was going to be a make or break year for Isaiah Crowell. He’s entering his third year in the NFL, and it’s time for him to show out. His yards per carry dipped from 4.1 per game in his rookie season, to 3.8 last season.

If The Crow can’t make an impact this season, it may be time for the Browns to look elsewhere for running back help next offseason. Remember, Crowell is an undrafted free agent. There’s tons of undrafted free agent backs looking for a gig right now. Crow needs to get back over the 4.0 yards per carry mark to cement himself as the Browns No. 1 option.

Backing him up will be Duke Johnson, who offers tons of promise entering his second year. Johnson still figures to be a bigger weapon catching balls out of the backfield, but there’s the hope he can improve his 3.6 rushing yards per attempt this season.

The Browns will probably keep a third back, and former Cincinnati Bengals Terrell Watson may be the favorite, because of his history with coach Hue Jackson.

Watson led the Bengals in rushing last preseason, and spent the 2015 campaign on the practice squad. He was the first player the Browns signed after Jackson was hired as coach.
