Jackson Needs Time

Ric McElroy

The Browns cleaned house this year and started a new regime of not only office and coaching personnel, but on the field with the players too. Those of us that were hoping for an improved record, are going to be very disappointed.

The problems in the past have been looking for instant gratification, not over the long haul. It takes more than one or two years to build up players and for them to be comfortable in each other.

We as fans and the front office need to look for improvement, not just wins. If this is going to work, the team should show that they aren’t making the same mistakes from week to week. That they are learning the system and doing their individual jobs to make it as a team; Not just a bunch of guys running around on the field.

Jackson needs time to mold this team. He didn’t take over a bunch that were one or two steps from the Super Bowl. There really wasn’t a lot of talent on this team. If progress is evident, then you stick with Jackson.

That said, it’s not all Jackson’s fault the Browns looked so bad in there first regular season game. He’s not playing in the field and can’t have a do-over when a player or players mess up.

These players are getting a rather large sum of money to play and get it right! The players each have a responsibility on every play and together they become a team. But if one player makes a mistake the play is good for the other team and makes every other player(s) look good.

I must agree that if Jackson continues to push Robert Griffin III on this team as more than a backup, then there is a big problem. RGIII has proven once again that he cannot stay healthy and still can’t take some direction. He’s a serviceable back-up at best.

The franchise quarterback is not on this roster. Jackson has made two mistakes: RGIII and Cody Kessler! Neither is more than a second or third stringer.

With the quarterbacks available in the next draft, it’s time to get one with our top pick. More than likely it should be the first choice, because unless there is a big turn around Cleveland might and I mean might win one game.
