Overall Cleveland Had A Good First Half

During the Ravens’ second possession of the game, quarterback Joe Flacco attempted a pass for wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. That’s when cornerback Joe Haden flew in and intercepted the ill-advised pass, and returned the ball back to the Ravens 27-yard line.

Four plays later the Browns had their third touchdown of the game, when McCown hit Coleman for his second career touchdown reception. Just like that it was 20-0, and it appeared that the Browns were on their way to a rout. However, the game was about to change.

On the extra point attempt, the Ravens blocked kicker Patrick Murray‘s attempt, and returned the blocked PAT for two points. While the score was 20-2, somehow the momentum of the game shifted. For the next four series, the Browns and Ravens exchanged punts. The offensive momentum that the Browns had early in the first quarter had not translated to the second quarter.

Despite a 20-2 lead, you could sense that Browns fans were a bit concerned. McCown had taken a big hit, and went to the locker room late in the first quarter. He came back, but the offense wasn’t the same.

More from Cleveland Browns

After Flacco led the Ravens on a six-play, 75-yard touchdown drive in the second, the Browns got the ball back with just over a minute in the half. That meant there was enough time to go for a late score in the second half. So the Browns came out throwing.

To this point in the game, McCown and the Browns had avoided any costly turnovers. However, that came to an end when former San Diego Charger safety Eric Weddle intercepted the ball.

The Ravens then tacked on three more points. In a matter of two minutes, the Ravens had made it a 20-12 game at half.
