2. Mark Price

Price was my mom’s and your mom’s favorite player. For those who don’t remember his game, Price was the early version of Steph Curry.

Price played in an era where you didn’t pass up lay-ups to house 3-point shots, but throughout his career, he proved he was one of the best at dialing up the long ball, owning a .402 shooting percentage. That hot shooting carried over to the free-throw line, where he shot 90.4 percent in nine NBA seasons, which is second in NBA history, according to Basketball Reference.

Besides being one of the greatest players in Cavs history, Price is also a part of one of the best trades ever made by the organization. Price was drafted in 1986 by the Dallas Mavericks from Georgia Tech, but but was sent to Cleveland for a 1989 second-round selection.

In 1989, Price joined Larry Bird in the 50-40-90 club, which means shooting 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 90 percent from the free-throw line.

Price and those Cavs of the early 90’s just couldn’t get past those pesky Michael Jordon Chicago Bulls’ teams.

Price was one of the best true point guards, even though he overcame a ton of criticism like  “being to slow” and too small and deliberiate. Price averaged 15.2 points per game, 6.7 assists per game, 2.6 total rebounds per game, and 1.2 steals per game.

Following Cleveland, Price had stints with the Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic.

Price has many accomplishments between college and the NBA as he has some school records at Georgia Tech and they are

Georgia Tech’s All Time Leader in…

  • 3-point field goal percentage (.440, 1983–86)
  • Steals (240, 1983–86)
  • Consecutive games started (126, 1983–86)
  • Minutes played (4,604, 1983–86).

Price’s NBA Accomplishments are as Follows

  • 4x NBA All Star  (1989, 1992-1994)
  • All NBA first team (1993)
  • 3x All NBA Third Team (1989, 1992, 1994)
  • 2x NBA 3-point shootout champion (1993, 1994)
  • 50-40-90 Club (1989)

Soon after Price hung up the sneakers, the Cavs retired his number (25). Price’s No. 25 is also retired at Georgia Tech and price is also a member of the Ohio, Oklahoma and Georgia sports hall of fames.

Price is currently the head coach of the UNC Charlotte 49ers A Division I basketball program that competes in Conference USA.
