5. Njoku still buried

David Njoku is still third on the depth chart, behind Randall Telfer and Seth DeValve on the tight end portion of the depth chart

It’s not surprising to see Teller first for the second straight week, as his presence speaks to the Browns commitment to run the ball–even though Jackson got away from the running game against the Saints.

DeValve would’ve benefited greatly from some better Osweiler throws, and had Brock been more accurate, DeValve’s name would’ve gotten more in this week.

That brings us to Njoku, the 21-year-old rookie from “The U.” Understandably, the Browns don’t want to make the mistakes of past regimes and hand deliver everything to their first-round picks. Jackson and company want their rookies to earn everything, and Njoku is a clear case of this line of thought.

He suffered from a case of the drops early in camp, and then missed the first preseason game because of injury. His absence was mostly precautionary, but being present is half the battle, and he wasn’t there.

Next: Why a non-QB trade is likely

Apparently his practice week wasn’t good enough to get him elevated heading into preseason Week 2. The Monday Night Football contest will be a big for Njoku. He’s got to play, and hopefully, he’ll produce.
