5 Cleveland Browns whose stock is up after upset win over Falcons
3. Nick Chubb, RB
Nick Chubb has something a lot of Browns’ running backs haven’t had: Breakaway speed. That attribute was responsible for helping Chubb jet to a 92-yard touchdown run–a new franchise record.
It was brought up on the broadcast, and it shouldn’t be overlooked, but Chubb is excellent at waiting for holes to open up.
There was a play in particular in which he started off right, realized there was nothing there, and cut back around left for a 10-yard gain.
I thought Carlos Hyde did a good job for the Browns, but he wouldn’t have been able to rip off the run Hyde made. He just doesn’t have that extra gear Chubb displayed.
Plus, too often, he was tackled after three or four yards.
Chubb’s also catching passes out of the backfield, hauling in a touchdown pass, making him even more deadly.
I think it’s also worth pointing out the formation used on the halfback pass that was intercepted. It didn’t work out, but that set of using Dontrell Hilliard, Duke Johnson and Chubb in the backfield will cause confusion for defenses.
Hopefully, we’ll see it again with better results.
