Set single season passing, TD records

Baker Mayfield may only going into his second season, but expectations are huge. Browns’ record books huge.

ESPN’s Mike Clay, who recently released his projects, predicts Mayfield will throw for 4,312 yards and 31 touchdowns. Brian Sipe is currently the record holder in both categories, as he threw for 4,132 yards and 30 touchdowns during that memorable 1980 Cardiac Kids season.

It’s not a stretch to believe Mayfield can hit these marks. Despite being relegated to a back-up role for the first two games of the 2018 campaign, he ended the season with 3,725 yards and 27 touchdowns (an NFL rookie record).

His play coincided with the rise of Freddie Kitchens to offensive coordinator. And now that Kitchens has been promoted to head coach, the expectation is that Mayfield will keep the Browns’ offense rolling.

The Browns added to Mayfield’s on-field arsenal by trading for Odell Beckham Jr, who will play opposite Pro Bowler Jarvis Landry. When you factor in second-year veteran Antonio Callaway and tight end David Njoku, the air attack should be a live and well on the lakefront.

Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt and Duke Johnson will aid Mayfield, too. All are capable of catching balls out of the backfield.
