Cleveland Browns: Final roster prediction comes with a few surprises
By Caleb Baum
Quarterbacks (3)
Baker Mayfield is the starting quarterback. No competition. No drama. No doubt. That feels good.
As with every team, the Browns will go as far as their talented signal caller will take them. Last year, after he got a little experience — and some addition by subtraction performed by John “The Legend” Dorsey — Baker took off and led the Browns on a thrilling, much overdue, ride. Setting the rookie touchdown record in only 13 starts and beating up on some of the best defenses in the NFL. Now Baker has an entire NFL off-season, new weapons, a voice he trusts in Kitchens, and one of the most talented defenses backing him up. The sky is the limit. It’s BakerMania Time.
I think it is fair to assume the Browns will take 3 quarterbacks on the roster. Drew Stanton is a very safe bet to be the backup quarterback to Baker. Stanton has plenty of NFL experience and is considered one of the better backups in the NFL. He provides Baker with a different point of view on game-day and in film study.
The third quarterback on the roster will be Garrett Gilbert. Gilbert has all the arm talent in the world, but has not seem to be able to put it together yet.
He played great in the now defunct Alliance of American Football, but that league doesn’t exist anymore. That talent makes him a great option as a 3rd quarterback for any team.
PREDICTION : Baker Mayfield, Drew Stanton, Garrett Gilbert
