Browns: 5 good and 5 bad from the Ravens rematch
By Chad Porto
The Good
Baker Mayfield
Yeah, he only completed 60% of his passes but he did it against one of the top four defenses in the NFL against the pass. Yeah, he threw one interception but his season total through 13 games is eight. He played marvelously and wasn’t helped out much by Kevin Stefanski’s play calling. Something that Stefanski took responsibility for. Despite that, Mayfield led the team to a comeback, and a game tieing touchdown in the waning moments of the game. All without taking a single sack against the much-vaunted defense.
Jarvis Landry
By past seasons’ expectations, Jarvis Landry’s game wasn’t great. He only had 52 yards, after all. Yet, as he continues to bounce back from what could possibly be a career-altering hip surgery, Landry is finding his old form again. While not playing the same lateral game he was accustomed to previously, Landry’s become a dangerous and sure-handed threat underneath. As one of the Monday Night Football commentators described the passing game, a “death by a 1,000 cuts”. Which described Landry’s role well. Nothing big, but consistent.
The Backs
The next time Stefanski gets a sunburn, both Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb should get to slap him hard. For some reason, the Browns head coach didn’t call their numbers very often early on, and in turn, the Browns offense was not able to control the clock. Through the air and on the ground, Hunt and Chubb combined for 213 yards and four touchdowns.
Rashard Higgins
Rashard Higgins scored a late-game touchdown in a wide-open endzone, against this stellar Ravens defense. Kudos.
Kevin Stefanski
Stefanski didn’t let his early game mishaps affect him and he was able to get the game tied up at 42-all to close out the final minute of the game. Considering how badly the same Ravens beat the Browns in Week 1, this was a huge improvement.
