Rookie Quarterbacks Don’t Need Coaching Apparently

Remember all those times that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick never talked during their time together in New England? Yeah, me neither. The most shocking thing to come out of the ESPN 850 interview was the revelation that Hue Jackson didn’t spend a lot of time with Baker Mayfield.

This really says a lot about Jackson as a coach and why Mayfield may have had such an issue with him. When asked about the tension between him and Mayfield, Jackson had the audacity to actually say he doesn’t understand why, all while taking credit for Mayfield;

"To this day I will never understand it. I was part of the reason he (Baker Mayfield) was the number one pick. I didn’t spend a lot of time with Baker, we had a QB coach and coordinator."

Holy word jumble, Batman. So he doesn’t understand why his former quarterback doesn’t like him, despite not really spending time with him. All while taking credit for his position. Don’t get it twisted either, whatever credit he’s claiming is more than likely nothing to write home about. Jackson has insinuated in the past that he likes Mayfield’s game, but not Mayfield himself.

"I still think this guy is going to be a really good player. … The player, I’ve never had a problem with the player."

That was from an ESPN 850 interview from June of 2020.

So clearly he doesn’t like Mayfield, he didn’t spend time with Mayfield and he took credit for Mayfield’s success in Cleveland to some degree. He’s thrown players under the bus, refused to take credit for his mistakes, and has burned everyone he could in the process.

Yet, he doesn’t know why Mayfield has an issue with him?
