Browns Draft: Evaluating the Sporting News 2021 NFL mock draft
By Chad Porto
"The Browns need to keep thinking of boosting defense everywhere and they can land a quick backfield disruptor for the inside here. – Iyer"
While not the preferred pick for the position, Osa Odighizuwa does check off a lot of boxes. First, he’s in a position of need. The Browns are pretty light on defensive tackle these days. Secondly, he does fit part of the need of the Browns front-four, as he’s described as a good interior pass rusher by multiple draft profiles. Thirdly, he’s fast and strong, and plays in a big-time conference, and is here near the third round. That’s pretty good value.
Though he has no impressive intangibles. In fact, he’s described by several mock draft sites as being weak against the run. Considering how important a defensive tackle is against the run, a defensive tackle who can’t blow up the line of scrimmage is like a quarterback who can’t throw. What’s the point?
Granted, he can learn, and if he has the strength and speed; which he does, he can learn the best techniques to get into the backfield. So he’s far from the perfect prospect, but the standards for prospects at this point in the draft are not as high as they are in the first round.
