Defensive Tackles: Billy Winn and Beau Allen

The Browns set the precedent of signing guys who haven’t seen action in a while when they brought in Malik McDowell. Well, that was a mistake as he’s proven to be everything I thought he’d be. He’s a hothead who leads the Browns in penalties, and if that wasn’t bad enough, he’s just flat-out terrible.

He’s been bad all year, but despite a vocal minority of Browns fans gushing over his subpar abilities early on, no one is talking about him anymore, and for good reason. The Browns defense has largely returned to form save for safety and defensive tackles. The Browns are out of luck on upgrading at safety during the regular season but there are a couple of interesting guys the team should bring in to upgrade the interior.

After all, McDowell and Malik Jackson have been utter disasters. The Malik’s have a 49.5 (McDowell) and 47.8 (Jackson) PFF score respectively.

Right now Sheldon Day and Tommy Togiai have played better according to PFF, and adding Billy Winn and Beau Allen makes all the sense in the world. Winn is a good player, with a solid last outing with Green Bay when he was healthy but injury concerns have left him off a lot of radars. If he can get a second shot, he may just prove his worth. It also doesn’t hurt that Winn, likes Mitchell Schwartz before him, is a former Browns player.

For Allen, he’s in the same space, where injuries have kept him from getting noticed, but like Winn, if Allen can get a shot he may just prove his worth. It would be harder to actively be worse than the Malik’s.
