3 potential future replacements for Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield
Potential Cleveland Browns QB: Marcus Mariota?
Marcus Mariota presented the Tennessee Titans with the same problems Baker Mayfield presents the Cleveland Browns.
Tennessee kept waiting for the light bulb to go off for the former Heisman winner, but when it seemed like Mariota was finally trending the right way, he’d turn in a dud, or get injured.
Eventually, the Titans just gave up after rescuing the career of Ryan Tannehill.
Mariota should be an option if the Browns decide to move on because he’d fit right into Kevin Stefanski’s scheme, of play-action fakes and rolling out in the pocket.
When it comes to Mariota and the idea of potentially joining the Browns, follow the money, as always. He’s making $3.5 million this season.
The Brown were obviously “spooked” over giving Mayfield $40 million per year before the season started. If they were then, they’re more hesitant than ever to do it. We’re all rooting for Baker, but it’s clear he’s a. system quarterback–just like Mariota.
DePodesta comes from “Moneyball.” You know how it works. Get the same type of production for less money. Mayfield has five wins this season. The argument could be made Mariota would have just as many if he were under center.
