Go figure, a seventh-round draft pick didn’t really amount to much. Drafted out of Tulane, Donnie Lewis wasn’t seen as a big prospect for the Cleveland Browns but the team wanted to improve its defense from 2018, which was a big reason why they only won seven games that year.

He was part of a draft that included five defensive players for the Browns, three of whom are still making an impact on the squad. The hope was that this draft class would help re-establish the team’s defense in 2019 but that didn’t end up happening.

In fact, Lewis didn’t even make it out of camp on the roster, as he was among the last wave of cuts before the season began. He was then released outright before the start of the 2020 season. There was some hope that he’d catch on elsewhere and ended up in Cinncinati but they too ended up waiving him during the 2021 season.

To date, he has yet to play an actual NFL game and that doesn’t seem likely to change. Maybe he can catch on in the United States Football League’s revival this spring.
