Pittsburgh Steelers

This may not make sense to many paying attention to the NFL free agency period but there seems to be a lot of interest in Baker Mayfield from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are apparently not sold on Mitch Trubisky already and for good reason. Despite him being the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Trubisky had a rocky road in Chicago.

A lot of that falls on the failure of his then-head coach with the Bears, but there remains some uncertainty about his talent. Until we can see him perform more consistently, we can’t know for sure if he’s a legitimate option to be a starter for the Steelers. He could be a Pro Bowler in the waiting, again, or he could end up being replaced by Mason Rudolph.

So it does make sense that Mayfield’s name is being attached to the Steelers. They don’t have an obvious replacement for Ben Roethlisberger, and until they find a steady replacement, the carousel of quarterbacks will continue.

Is Mayfield going to be the answer in Pittsburgh? Who’s to say? Mayfield, like Trubisky, has to prove he can go, and that won’t be easy with the lack of offensive weapons in Pittsburgh. That doesn’t mean it won’t be interesting to see should it happen.
