Atlanta Falcons

If you’re on the Marcus Mariota bandwagon, I’d be very hesitant for the future. The Atlanta Falcons are in the NFC South, and it’s a pretty weak division at the moment, so there’s a chance the team can compete. They would’ve had a better chance to compete had they kept Matt Ryan, but they traded him to the Indianapolis Colts. So the Falcons are now stuck in this weird limbo. They have an elite tight end, a pretty solid offense, but were an unexpected 7-10 last season despite being a “bad” team.

Yet, the Falcons are in the same position as the Steelers. Like with Pittsburgh, you can’t really rely on newly acquired Marcus Mariota. Mariota, like Mitch Trubisky, is a player that has proven to be inconsistent. Mariota has played well at times but he hasn’t exactly had a single big season that would make you think he can be a playoff-caliber team.

He had a nice season in 2016 but he’s not known for his arm strength and that could be a solid reason for the Falcons to pursue Baker Mayfield. That’s only if they think they can compete in 2022 for a playoff spot. If not, there’s no reason to go get Mayfield at this point. Not with the investment into Mariota already made.
