ORCHARD PARK, NY – DECEMBER 18: Joe Haden /

CB/FS Joe Haden

For the other two names on this list, Carl Nassib and Larry Ogunjobi, I see them more as a backup or as a provisional starter. Yet, with Joe Haden, if he’s open to a position change like many other great cornerbacks in history, I think he’d not only start but contend for a Pro Bowl.

Haden isn’t as fast as he once was, but we’ve seen safeties adapt to that after moving from corner. Charles Woodson, Aneas Williams, and so many others have changed from corner to free safety and had massive success.

Haden can be the next guy to do just that. The Browns are really putting a lot of eggs in the basket of Grant Delpit to unseat Ronnie Harrison to fill that second safety position, and they’re hoping that John Johnson III isn’t a bust of a signing like Austin Hooper was.

That’s a lot of wishing and if-ing for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations. If you’re really serious about contending for a title, why leave things like this to chance? You know Haden can still cover, he’s always been a solid tackler, and he’s smart enough to pick up the new position on the fly. So just imagine what he’ll be like in a few months when we get to the start of the season?
