Taj Gibson and/or Evan Fournier

Again, another two cases of players who could be bought out but for vastly different reasons. taj Gibson is turning 38 and is mostly just a defensive big man at this point. Sure, an undersized one, but someone you can throw out and play hack-a-player for 15 minutes or so. Like in other examples, Gibson only makes sense if the Cavs need another big due to a player getting traded or injury.

He’s not as nimble as he once was but if you need a guy who can grind out a few minutes against skilled offensive talents without worrying about taking fouls, he’s your guy.

Now, Evan Fournier may not be on the buyout market anytime soon, if ever, the Knicks will do everything they can to trade him but with three years on his contract, and nearly $60 million left to pay, it looks like Fournier may not be going anywhere anytime soon. He’s still a solid three-point shooter but he shot a career-low of 41% from inside the arc. It’s very possible that the Knicks may come to the conclusion he’s a sunk cost and just buy him out to free up space.

If they do that, he could be a solid option for the Cavs off the bench, but remember, Fournier isn’t the most likely of buyout candidates. So don’t get your hopes up.
