John Johnson III

Jack Conklin has worked out, for the most part, for the Cleveland Browns but besides him, how many free agents have? Jadevoen Clowney had one solid year, and Austin Hooper lasted two years before getting the boot. The defensive tackles over the last three seasons have been a revolving door of suck. The one good one they did have, Troy Hill, got traded.

Right now, John Johnson is in that same boat. He was an Andrew Berry guy who came in and has completely underperformed. If he were playing this well and was say, a sixth-round pick? Sure, that’s awesome. Great value.

But he wasn’t. He was a very expensive free agent who has been anything other than a solid investment. He, like Taven Bryan, has had a history of good play. So maybe he and Bryan aren’t the issues. That’s going to be the question they have to answer.

With some of the best offenses in the league coming up, now is the time to prove you’re capable of making plays. If he can’t, if the defense continues to be exploited, regardless of its player or scheme, Johnson’s going to be on the first train out of town. You better believe that.
