829. . S. Crimson Tide . Jordan Battle. 74. player

The Cleveland Browns need help at the safety position. They just signed Juan Thornhill, a solid player who should provide an upgrade at the position over John Johnson, but if advanced stats are telling us the whole picture; not by much.

The Browns also need to figure out who’s starting opposite of Thornhill, as right now Grant Delpit is the only real candidate for that spot. Delpit was fine, at best for the Browns in 2022, with PFF giving him a coverage grade of 6.25 and an overall score of 63.6. Not terrible numbers by any means, but not high enough for Delpit to be seen as “consistent.”

Jordan Battle on the other hand did damage against the SEC, having some of his best games against Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Missippip State, and later on during Bowl Season against Kansas State. He racked up overall grades of 80s in all three seasons with the Crimson Tide and had an 85.2 coverage grade in 2022.

According to the Cons section, Battle’s not a big-time playmaker but could be a viable starter if he turns out well. That’s just a projection, as he could be very good, or very bad, but if he hits the ceiling PFF has for him, he’s a solid starter for the Browns right out of the gate.

Which is exactly what the team needs.
