Chris Wormley

Sticking with a more sizeable option for the Cleveland Browns is former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle, Chris Wormley. Wormley has played all over the defensive line, lining up as a defensive end in the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens’ 3-4 defenses. While a different position, technically, they have nearly the same assignments, so Wormley could easily come in and play tackle for the Browns.

He’s got the talent to do big things, when given the chance with the Steelers in 2021, he had seven sacks in 15 games. By no means is he Aaron Donald, but he’s clearly got the ability to generate pressure. We should also note that PFF didn’t give him a strong set of scores for 2021, with just a 59.1 pass-rush grade.

So clearly PFF didn’t see a lot of value in his pass-rush skills.  What he seemingly lacks in consistent pass-rushing abilities he makes for by being a very solid run-stopper. He’s not posted a score lower than 69.0 against the run in the last four years, and last year he had a score of 79.0, which is very good.

The Browns had a rough 2022 against the run, so getting some more help to bolster that issue isn’t a bad thing.

He, like the rest of the names on this list, won’t be a long-term option at the position but if he can help the Browns bolster their run defense for 2023, then he can at least hang around for a potential playoff run.
